biography
I was born in small-town New Zealand in the mid-seventies. After finishing my studies I moved to Germany in 1996 before settling in Perth, Western Australia in 2002.
Growing up in such an isolated environment has always coloured my artistic practice. This was further complicated by my time in Germany (a lack of language) and subsequently in Perth. The later being renowned as the most isolated major city in the world and notoriously conservative.
Context, broader concepts surrounding 'captions' and a lack of a personal cultural 'library' have always been central to ideas explored in my work.
The images have always been very personal and have a therapeutic nature to them. They are typically how I work through problems or issues in my life.
I majored in Photography with a Fine Art bias and exhibit on
a regular basis in Perth, Western Australia where I now live with
my artist wife. Please see the press
archive for some insight into our working practice.
