create | christopher youngdrei (German: three) is a series of work that addresses specific aspects of both Chris' personal life & creative practice. It consciously develops ideas of context, implied narrative and space to communicate, amongst other things, darkness and danger. Images are, for me, inherently loaded with stories. When I see a broken door or a crumpled piece of paper I interpret these further than simple objective observation. 'Why' and 'how' are impossible to ignore. Using very limited information and my emotional response I 'fill' in the gaps and create myths... read more |

create | elisa markes-youngIn her work Elisa uses mostly natural fibres, textiles, techniques and skills that are - at least in cultures of European origins - traditionally attributed to the female field of experience. create | transitions (2007)The artists understand themselves as being in the state of constant change resulting from multiple migrations and the search for identity, both personal and artistic. Transitions was an exhibition of new work by Elisa, Chris & Gail Leidich that was held at Kurb Gallery. Please see the microsite for more detail. |
create | what i am (2006)As a tribal species humans define themselves through memberships to groups and comparisons to others. We need to join a group. We feel comfortable when we fit in. We need to conform. Conforming signals: I am like you. At the same time distinctive differences are considered a fundamental part of ones sense of identity. By conforming are we losing part of our identity? Or is it merely a variation? What I Am was an exhibition of Elisa and Chris' work held at the Breadbox Gallery in February/March 2006. |
